Details

sensur_01 is a passive electromagnetic sensor — an inductor wired to a standard XLR output. Where a normal microphone hears air, it hears electricity: the hum of transformers, the churn of drives and the drone of the mains.

It is built on Sommer SC-The Stage 22, a professional-grade, highly durable cable, terminated in Neutrik REAN connectors.

The sensor produces a low-level signal that needs adequate amplification. A recorder with 24 V or 48 V phantom power works well, as does a preamplifier.

Each one is made by hand, so sizes are approximate — a length tolerance of roughly plus or minus 2 to 3 inches (5 to 8 cm).
